Family Photo

An anonymous relative of mine poses for an official photograph for the Universal Exposition of 1863 - he was a cavalryman in Napoleon III's armies. Unfortunately I do not know much else bout him.

As a history student, I love getting my hands on anything of a certain age, but especially things related to my own family. As the older generations disappear, I've discovered that almost nobody remembers much about our own past, and so I shall eventually have to do some independent research on the question. I'm starting to suspect that part of the bloodline may have been Bonapartists, because amongst the effects where I found the above photograph was also an engraving of the King of Rome. That would be, quite possibly, the best thing ever, to know I am not the first.

Addendum 12/08/2012:
During further delving into old family documents, I have discovered that his name is Aubain Jarnac, and that he graduated in the class of 1869 (here he is still in his cavalry school). The photo was in fact taken in 1864 at an Exposition in Angers, not at the Universal Exposition. The great-great-grandfather in question was a reservist in the Franco-Prussian War, and served in the army until 1895.

Traitor, Traitor, On the Wall...

Or should that be in front of it?

I had planned to make a lighthearted post today, introducing a new post series I am planning, but it seems that God works against that endeavor at this time.

Apparently, our ex-President, Nicolas Sarkozy, has been offered by Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, a post as royal adviser and pro-Moroccan lobbyist to the world. I honestly would not be surprised if he accepted, since he has decided to desert his country and buy a palace in Morocco, and because I'm sure the King would not be so presumptuous as to ask a man for his services if he was not at least half sure the man would accept the proposition. That is not how these people work.

Can it be said that Sarkozy has been our worst ever president? I think it can. The man is not only a liar, a crook, and a repulsive human all around, but he made it a point to import more immigrants and their families than any Socialist government has ever done (let's see if Hollande beats his record), and now is residing in and going to work for a country that has, at least in these matters, made itself an indirect enemy of my country by refusing to control immigration from Morocco to France.

Sarkozy may as well revoke his French citizenship. It's one thing for an intellectual to go work for a foreign government, as has happened throughout history, or even some nobleman or clergyman. But for an actual former head of state, barely even out of office? It is inexcusable. If I were in charge, people like Sarkozy, and I don't just mean traitors overall, I mean government officials who are traitors, would be the first to have their heads cut clean off by the shining blade of the National Razor. They deserve nothing else.
